Complain about my career, my favorite topic

Well, currently I’m in third year of Bachelor of Fine Arts and in these years, I lived the decadence of studying Fine Arts in Chile, specific, in the Universidad de Chile. Luckily, the curriculum changed from this year for the new generation,  so I hope that it’s better that the one with which I entered, because the subjects in the first year was horrible, a kind of “common plan” but sincerely, I have used less than 10% of what I was taught in that year throughout my career.

However, I don’t have any complain about the workload, even in pandemic, because the administration of the career always try to give us all the facilities to finish the year with a good grade, I mean, there are some exceptions, but the administration and the teachers if you have interest and you do what you can do to get good grades, they almost all the time, they give you a chance.

Otherwise, the infrastructure of the faculty where I’m study is fatal, it’s an old school of nuns from what I've been told, practically disarming herself with each passing day. Since I start studying there, I have heard claims of the place, because it isn’t adapted for the needs and machinery of the different art specializations, it has asbestos roofs which can cause respiratory health problems, and even cancer. Also, I remember that in November of 2018, it rained relatively hard, but it was enough for the faculty, because was completely flooded, like cascades were made over the lockers, because the ceilings weren’t well sealed, it was impossible to enter the underground rooms the next day. So, the faculty need a “extreme makeover” because everything in that place it’s wrong.

It’s kinda weird talk about the use of technology, I think that we have a locked room with high-end computers and we only use that in two class. The other type of “technology” is the machinery that we use in some workshop (ceramics, engraving, photography) but they’re super old machines, even some don’t work.

And finally, teaching methods, as in any university/career there are teachers who don’t know how to teach and other very good teachers, to this must be added how the ego affects many teachers, more in the artistic field. So, I have had self-referential teachers, those whose jobs must be related to what they do and normal teacher. In the present year, I can say that I have very good teachers, fortunately.
